Three steps to a finished support layout

Every command sits on the Revit ribbon under IBR Tools → AutoHanger. The second step is optional.

Step 1 · Pipe Hangers

Place the hangers

Pipe Hangers analyses the selected pipes and proposes hanger positions from the chosen rule set.

  1. Select the pipes — individually, with a selection window, or with Tab for the whole connected run.
  2. Click the point the layout should start from.
  3. Choose a rule set, review the proposals and place them.
Step 2 · Support Rails (optional)

Add support rails

Support Rails groups hangers that are already placed onto shared rails. The step is only needed for pipes that should be carried together.

  1. Select the hangers concerned.
  2. Choose a rail rule set.
  3. The rule set decides the mounting: against the structure, or suspended above or below the pipes.
Step 3 · Connect Hangers

Connect the hangers

Connect Hangers ties each hanger to the component carrying it: an AutoHanger support rail, a ceiling, a floor or a structural element.

  1. Select the hangers to connect.
  2. The nearest suitable component above or below each hanger is located.
  3. Every rod is set individually to the distance up to that component.

Frequently asked questions

Can I select a whole pipe network?

Yes. Select pipes beforehand or pick them inside the command, chain selection with Tab included. The analysis scope can then be widened to the whole connected network.

What happens at elbows and tees?

Spacing carries on through fittings. A branch is treated as its own run from the tee onwards. Traversal stops at mechanical equipment.

Where are my rule sets stored?

Under %LOCALAPPDATA%\IBR\AutoHanger, with separate folders for hanger and rail rule sets. Each rule set is one file and stays until you delete it.

Why does a hanger not find the component above it?

AutoHanger searches in a view of its own, so hidden elements, section boxes and view templates in your views make no difference. Two things are out of its reach: elements on a closed workset, which Revit has not loaded, and elements in linked models, which this version does not search. Open the workset and run the command again.
