AutoHanger privacy policy
Effective date
15 September 2026.
This policy covers the AutoHanger add-in for Autodesk Revit. Processing by this website is described separately in the website privacy notice.
Who is responsible
AutoHanger is a Revit add-in provided by IBR Messtechnik GmbH ("we", "us").

This policy explains data handling by AutoHanger and when you contact us for AutoHanger support. Your organisation's handling of its Revit projects, computers, backups and shared storage is governed by its own arrangements.
What happens on your computer
AutoHanger reads the Revit model information needed for the commands you run: selected or connected pipework, geometry, element identifiers, dimensions, system and component information, and the relevant hangers, rails and structural elements. It uses that information to calculate support positions, create supports and adjust rods. Changes you choose to make become part of your Revit model and follow that model's storage arrangements.
AutoHanger stores two kinds of file on your computer, both under %LOCALAPPDATA%\IBR\AutoHanger:
Hanger and rail rule sets, including their names and engineering settings, so that your chosen rules can be saved and reused. They are kept until you delete them.
Diagnostic logs, which explain analysis and placement results and help investigate failures.
Logs can contain timestamps, model element identifiers, pipe dimensions, network relationships, coordinates, system or component descriptions, rule-set names, placement results and errors. Error details can include file paths that reveal a Windows username, and names entered in models or rule sets can contain personal or confidential information. Treat logs as potentially sensitive project information.
Local logs have no automatic expiry in this version. You or your administrator can delete them from the folder above while Revit is closed; later use creates new logs. Deleting rule-set files removes saved settings, so keep a copy if you need them. Deleting these folders does not remove supports already saved in a Revit model, and copies held by your organisation's backup systems follow its retention rules. Do not rely on uninstalling the add-in to erase these files.
What the add-in does not do
This version of AutoHanger sends nothing anywhere. It makes no network request of any kind. It contains no advertising, no analytics, no automatic crash reporting and no online licence check, and it needs no AutoHanger account. Model information, logs and rule sets reach us only if you choose to send them with a support request.
When you contact us for support
If you contact us we receive the contact details, messages and attachments you provide, which may include your name, email address, organisation, logs, screenshots or sample Revit files. We use them to answer your request, investigate problems and provide fixes. Please review attachments before sending them, remove unrelated personal or confidential information, and share only project material you are authorised to disclose. We do not sell support information and do not use it for advertising.
We keep support information only as long as it is needed for the request it belongs to and for any follow-up that request leads to, and we delete or anonymise it once that need ends. You can ask us to delete it sooner, and we consider such requests under the rights set out below. Information we have to keep to meet a legal obligation or to handle a specific legal claim is restricted to that purpose and deleted when the need ends.
Deleted information can remain in routine backups until those backups expire. If a backup is restored, the deletion is applied again.
Service providers and external services
We use Microsoft 365 for company email and for storing support information. Our subscription is registered in Germany, which places it within Microsoft's EU Data Boundary: for Microsoft 365, Microsoft commits to storing and processing customer data and personal data inside the EU and EFTA.
That commitment carries limited exceptions which Microsoft documents itself, so a storage location in Germany does not mean every processing step happens there — remote access from outside the boundary can occur, for instance for support and security operations. Microsoft sets out these cases in its EU Data Boundary documentation.
Microsoft processes this data on our behalf under its standard Data Protection Addendum, which also governs its use of subprocessors and the safeguards for any transfer outside the EEA.
Providers acting on our behalf must protect support information to the standard described in this policy and may process it only for the agreed service. Access is limited to those who need it for support and administration.
Downloading AutoHanger through Autodesk, using Revit, and visiting external websites involve services operated separately from this add-in. Their own privacy notices explain what they do.
Legal bases and your rights
Where the GDPR applies, support processing that is necessary for a contract with you relies on Article 6(1)(b); other support processing relies on Article 6(1)(f), our interest in answering enquiries and maintaining the software; mandatory retention relies on Article 6(1)(c).
Subject to the applicable conditions you may request access to, correction of, deletion of, restriction of or portability of personal data we hold, and you may object to processing based on legitimate interests. Where processing relies on consent you may withdraw it for the future. Write to the privacy contact above.
You may complain to a supervisory authority, including one where you live or work. For private-sector organisations in Bavaria this is the Bayerisches Landesamt für Datenschutzaufsicht (BayLDA), Postfach 1349, 91504 Ansbach, Germany.
Providing support attachments is optional, though missing information may limit our ability to diagnose a problem. We cannot reach or delete files held only on your computer; you and your administrator control those.
Changes to this policy
We update this policy when AutoHanger's data handling changes, and state the effective date above. Any future online licence check or data transmission will be described here before the release that introduces it.
The same text is embedded in the add-in and shown in its About dialog, so the copy you have in Revit matches the release you installed.
